Dublin, Ohio located north west of Columbus, the city capital of Ohio is packed with historical and cultural references to transport you to Ireland. In Dublin, irish is an attitude and all things irish are celebrated 365 days a year. Historic downtown is perfect for strolling from shop to shop discovering irish goods imported directly from Ireland. Once you have danced a jig, watched the St.Patrick’s Day parade, and did the Dub Crawl, visit these five family friendly restaurants and attractions our family enjoyed during our recent road trip stop in Dublin!
1. Columbus Zoo – 4850 Powell Rd. Powell, OH 43065
The Columbus Zoo is impressive. Voted the #1 Zoo in America by USA Travel Guide, there are exotic animals, an eco-adventure at Pirate Island, and the opportunity to explore Africa just like Jungle Jack Hanna does! While there you will see the largest Asian, elephant in a North American zoo, who weighs in at 7 metric tons! The Columbus Zoo will entertain explorers young and young at heart! Open daily, year around except for Thanksgiving and Christmas!
2. COSI Center of Science &Industry – 333 West Broad St. Columbus, OH 43215
COSI is the best science center in the country. While visiting, your kids will have so much fun with the interactive exhibits, they won’t even realize it they are learning. That’s my kind of family fun! Explore 10 themed exhibits, National Geographic giant screen theatre, travel simulator, and a world-class planetarium! Allow an entire day to explore because there is so much to see and do, you won’t want to rush!
3. Zoombezi Bay – 4850 Powell Rd. Powell, OH 43065
Hit the waves at Zoombezi Bay, the only water park located inside a zoo. Zoombezi Bay is directly next the the top rated Columbus Zoo. Waterpark admission includes exploring the zoo as well! Talk about making the most of your travel dollars! 17 + twisting and turning adventurous watersides, a 1000 gallon water tipping bucket, and races on raft rides. Zoombezi Bay is the place to cool down on warm Ohio summer days!
4. Rusty Bucket – 6726 Perimeter Loop Rd. Dublin, OH 43017
Located in Perimeter Center, is the Rusty Bucket. The atmosphere is similar to an old Irish pub. Serving up comfort food and a HUGE assortment beers. My favorites here are the Double Nickel salad and mahi mahi tacos! Quite honestly, we ordered an assortment of entrees at The Rusty Bucket and all tasted superb. This is a restaurant you just can’t go wrong when dining at!
5. Graeter’s Ice Cream – 6255 Frantz Rd. Dublin, OH 43017
Located within walking distance from Sonesta ES Suites, this iconic ice cream will tantalize your tastebuds while visiting Dublin. Graeter’s is a family owned and operated company that has produced ice cream since 1868. So what makes this ice cream unique? Small two-gallon batches and utilizing French Pot freezers, give this delightful treat a unique flavor! Ask for the Shamrock Sundae, which is a signature sundae at this location because irish is an attitude!
