Walt Disney World Open In Florida Is It Safe For Guests?
After nearly 120 days of closures, Walt Disney World is finally reopening its gates, starting with an Annual Passholder-exclusive preview. A limited number of Passholders were allowed into the park two days before the grand reopening. After spending a full day there, I’m here to give you the scoop on what’s changed, what’s stayed the same, and what’s expected of you as a guest at the most Magical Place on Earth. With Walt Disney World open in Florida, the real question is… is it safe for guests?
Before we even made it into the park, I could tell there was something different about this trip to the Magic Kingdom. Compared to other visits, there was hardly any traffic on the way into the parks. The parking lots were scarcely filled, and we were even guided to park two spots away from the car in front of us.
From there, cast members decked out in protective face masks and gloves greeted us with friendly messages of “Welcome home”. Even amidst the joy of returning, it’s easy to notice that lots of precautions have been put into place to prevent the spread of COVID-19 to Disney World guests and Cast Members. There are no brightly-colored Magic Kingdom trams running through the parking lots. When riding the monorail, each party has their own car on the monorail with dividers placed inside the monorail.
Each guest is required to wear a face mask. If you bring the wrong kind of facial mask or covering, vending machines have been installed near the Transportation Center where you can purchase a mask for $2. At the security checkpoints before the Transportation Center, guests have their temperatures checked upon arrival — anyone with a fever over 100 degrees will be denied entrance to the park.
Where guests need to line up, markings can be found 6ft apart on the ground, reading “Please wait here”. At the entrance and exit to every ride, hand sanitizing stations can be found.
In the park, the limited capacity appears to be even less than that of exclusive After-Hours parties or special events. The wait times for each attraction did not exceed thirty minutes. Some of the most popular rides, such as Space Mountain and the Mad Tea Party, boasted no wait times at all. The queues were completely empty. We were able to walk right on to Space Mountain.
Some small changes were also noticeable within attractions. On The Haunted Mansion, part of the attraction was cut out entirely — guests will notice that they no longer experience the room that is actually stretching. Only two rows of each boat on It’s A Small World were filled, and the logs on Splash mountain were ran at half full. However, there isn’t much of a change in attractions aside from that.
Aside from the new rules and changes, Disney World remains what it has always been at its heart. A place for families, people young and old, to experience fun and magic in an environment that is safe and positive for everyone. Wearing a mask or sanitizing your hands more frequently will not change the amount of happy memories you will make, because this is still the Happiest Place On Earth.
