We moved to Texas a few years ago for my husband’s career in the aerospace industry. This move brought on new experiences and a chance to explore other cultures for my kids. I love to share and create new traditions with my kids. It’s been exciting to experience new things I wasn’t exposed to growing up in a small town Ohio.
In the south, it’s common to celebrate Halloween and Dia de los Muertos! I can always count on H-E-B, our local grocery store to be a mecca of inspiration to facilitate multicultural celebrations. H-E-B’s Halloween Boolevard offers all the traditional Halloween items plus a large assortment of items to celebrate Dia de los Muertos!
Dia de los Muertos or Day of The Dead is a Mexican tradition to gather as a family to remember those who have died, while praying to support the spiritual journey of the family member who has passed on. Dia de los Muertos is celebrated from October 31 – November 2, to coicide with All Saints Day and All Souls’ Day!
When celebrating Dia de los Muertos, tradition is to bring favorite foods and other items of the departed to their grave when you visit to pray. For our Dia de los Muertos celebration, we are remembering my dad in addition to celebrating another special day, my husband’s birthday! For our Dia de los Muertos celebration, I’m serving TOMBSTONE® – Original Pepperoni Pizza. H-E-B has a great Combo Loco Deal! Purchase one TOMBSTONE® – Original Pepperoni Pizza & get 2 packages of NESTLÉ® Fun Size Candy Bar (6-Packs) for FREE!
While shopping I discovered select H-E-B stores will be sampling Pumpkin Cookie Butter dip with LIBBY’S 100% Pure Pumpkin and HEB Specaloos Creamy Cookie Butter! If your like me and obsessed with all things pumpkin, you won’t want to miss this tasty event!
I picked up a few other items for our celebration. My dad and husband’s favorite drink, NESTLÉ® NESQUIK® chocolate milk and for dessert, homemade Sugar Skull cookies made with NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Refrigerated Cookie Dough & NERDS® Fun Size Candy! I decided to use NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Harvest Apple for the flavor and texture to make the skull look more realistic. You could also use regular NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® sugar cookie dough. These homemade sugar skull cookies take semi-homemade to another level. They are so easy to make, plus each guest can decorate there own sugar skull with their favorite color and pattern with NERDS®
