Life can be a bit crazy! The demands of work, family and home can leave you exhausted. As a mother of four, I realized years ago… a strong marriage is the best gift I can give my kids. Truth be told, I live for date night. A chance for real adult conversation, to get dressed up pretty, and to put a little bit of lip gloss on! I want to share with you our recent date night at a hot spot in Orlando! Marlow’s Tavern features handcrafted cocktails and locally sourced fresh eats!
Marlow’s Tavern in Waterford Lakes is the perfect destination for date night. The chef driven neighborhood tavern has a laid back vibe where everyone knows your name and your waiter knows your drink order as you walk through the door. Classic American fare with an upscale twist keeps the locals coming back for more!
We started our evening off with a couple of cocktails! The Pom Collins(Top Left)made with Tito’s Vodka, Pama Liquor, House Made Sour Mix, Simple is the perfect blend of sweet and tart! The Blood Orange Margarita(Top Right) made with Herradura Tequila, Pur Blood Orange Spice Liqueur, fresh lemon and Clement Sirop de Canne is spicy more than sweet with a kick. Ole Scrappy Timer(Bottom Left) is an in house aged bourbon served over a 2 inch rock of ice. The Ole Scrappy Timer (very strong) has distinct notes of orange bitters and vermouth and is smooth going on down the hatch. My favorite of the four is the White Sangria(Bottom Right) is light, refreshing, and filled with fruit pieces of peaches, apples, mango and honeydew, and basil!
Are you a beer drinker? Marlow’s Tavern features rotating taps with kegs of local brew. My husband enjoyed the Bumby Blonde Ale from Ocean Sun Brewing. This Belgian blonde ale(6.7% ABV) is slightly sweet with a complex, spicy finish!
While enjoying our cocktails, our waiter was kind enough to bring us a bowl of kettle chips while we looked over the menu. I can’t tell you how glad I am that she did. I probably wouldn’t have ordered them on my own… but they were delicious! Thin crispy slices of potato topped with bacon and a smooth and creamy gorgonzola housemade dressing! I am now hooked on these kettle chips and will order them every time we dine at Marlow’s Tavern! We also enjoyed an appetizer(top picture) of housemade wontons with ahi tuna, Hawaiian Style, avocado, teriyaki glaze, and scallion. The poke was light and creamy with fresh ahi! Absolutely delicious!
For dinner, I highly recommend Marlow’s Chicken Stack! Herb marinated chicken, roasted fingerling potatoes, rosemary, thyme, blistered grape tomatoes, artichoke, baby arugula, green beans, lemonette and parslied olive oil provide an earthy and rustic entree. My husband enjoyed every bite!
For dessert, I highly recommend the Creme Brûlée. This decadent dessert is made with with imported Madagascar Vanilla Beans! The caramelized sugar on top is crisp, sweet, and provides a great contrast in textures for the sweet treat!
Marlow’s Tavern most popular menu item is their shrimp and grits featuring a white cheddar deep fried grit cake. This twist on a southern favorite won an award at the Lake Eola Food Festival. Marlow’s Tavern also won the best burger award at The Orlando Food Festival. We will be trying these two favorites on our next date night!
